My insurance carrier (Aetna Healthcare) will no longer approve Lucentis claiming it is not FDA approved. They will only sanction Avastin (the cheaper of the two). What recource do I have to appeal.....or should I seek another carrier who will cover Lucentis (the injection I have been receiving with stable results). It appears to be obvious: profit over patients. Aetna's mantra is citing the new healthcare law that they are only trying to provide affordable premiums to all. My concern is that if I switch to another HMO (say Keystone East), it may be only a matter of time when they too will hitch their wagon to a more profitable bottom line.
